Celebration!
Walk to School Day
Every year in October, DuFief holds its annual Walk to School Day. Students in all grade levels are encouraged to plan walking routes and limit car use this morning. Many students and parents participate in this activity every year! This year, we held our Walk to School Day on October 10, 2018.
Science Fair
Every year in March, DuFief Elementary School hosts its annual science fair. Students in all grade levels are invited to design an experiment and create a presentation to show their results to the rest of the school. Many students use this opportunity to focus on environmental issues. Each year we have about 50 students participate in the science fair! All of our classes K-5 have the opportunity during the day to view the projects and talk to their classmates about their experiments. This year's science fair will take place on March 28, 2019.
Recycle-Saurus Contest
On February 13, 2019, at our annual Family Learning Night, we held a "Recycle-saurus" contest! Students were invited to create a dinosaur using recycled materials from home. Students brought their creations to school and displayed them on the stage. While at the event, students voted on the most creative use of recyclable materials. Eighteen students from all grade levels entered the contest this year and we had eighty-five students vote at the event!
Little Free Library
During the Fall of 2016, we had a ribbon cutting ceremony for our Little Free Library! Students in third grade completed a community service project and helped partner with the Little Free Library Organization. Every student in our school added their thumb print and name to the library, and we had a ceremony to present the project to school. Our library gets a lot of use with students donating old books from their houses so other students can reuse and enjoy them!
