Kindergarten Curriculum and Instruction
How we use plants
All kindergarten students completed a science lesson on the different parts of plants. They sorted examples and discussed how people eat all the different parts. They discussed how plants have an important role in our lives and ways to help protect plants.
What plants need
All students in kindergarten completed a science experiment to learn about what plants need to survive. They observed three different plants over the course of 2 weeks. One plant received both sun and water, one plant received just water, and one plant received just sun. They recorded the effects these conditions had on their plants. Students then talked about how important it is for living things to have all of their needs met.
Darkling Beetle Models
Students in Kindergarten observe larva and adult Darkling Beetles to view their external features. They learned about the basic needs of these organisms and what they need to survive in their habitat. All students created clay models of the beetles with the external features they discussed in class.
