Solid Waste Reduction
Recycling Bin Inventory
Students on the fifth grade SERT team created a google form and completed an inventory of recycling bins in each classroom and office at school. The students looked at the number of bins and if they had lids that would help decrease recycling contamination. After completing the inventory, students used the information to put together an order for more bins and lids for our school.
Recycling Bin Labels
Students on the fifth grade SERT team used stickers to label each recycling bin in our school. These labels included information about what could be recycled in each bin. These labels will decrease the contamination of our recycling bins at school by making sure each bin only contains allowable materials in it.
Recycling Information Slideshows
Students on the fifth grade SERT team created slideshows that reinforced what materials can and cannot be recycled in the classroom. These students then shared their slideshows with all our classes to talk to the younger students about recycling and decreasing the contamination of our recycling bins.
Student Recyclers
Students in all grade levels perform classroom jobs to help manage the recycling in their classroom. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, fifth grade students on the SERT team collect recycling from all classrooms and work with our building service managers to dispose of it properly.
