Second Grade Curriculum and Instruction
Land and Water
In science, second grade students learned about the physical environment of Earth. They studied details of geographic features including plateaus, deserts, plains, islands, canyons, mountains, hills, valleys, and rivers. They also discussed how these features affect the organisms living near them. Students each brainstormed a list of landforms, bodies of water, and adjectives describing them. They created word clouds based on their list. Students also illustrated three landforms/bodies of water.
Habitat Postcards
In reading, second grade students read different texts and watched different videos to learn about habitats on our Earth. Students learned about the features of these habitats and how they impact the animals that live there. After completing their research, students created postcards to their families from a chosen habitat in writing. They included facts about the climate, as well as plants and animals found there.
